Frequently Asked Questions

  • Great question.

The answer is, because there's a recession.

We all need to win more business and spend less doing it. At any time, but especially in tough times.

If you were sure that the cost of the course will be repaid many times over within a year would that answer your question?

Let's see what we can do, using some realistic (and highly conservative) examples.

    1. Let's say that your Proposals get better, because the people writing them having been shown how to do it well. Let's say you win just 10% more.

    2. Let's also say that you burn through thousands of hours of pre-sales every year. Let's say you reduce that by just 10%.

    3. And finally, let's say that because you are investing in your team in a time of difficulty and uncertainty, you save just one of them from leaving. Let's say you just save 50% of their salary (it's between 50% - 150%, so we're being conservative).

Ok, now compare those direct benefits with the costs of training your people how to do their job well.

  • The cost of replacing an employee is between 50% - 200% of salary.

It's almost certain that you'll be replacing employees if you're not investing in them.

When you do replace them, you'll be paying market rates which are likely higher than that of the person(s) you're replacing.

Then there's the learning curve, "time to effectiveness" and cultural fit to consider.

It's also quite probable that the replacement "learned on the job" unless they learned with Consultant Academy.

So despite the cost, time and effort, it's not a foregone conclusion that you'll end up with what you're looking for.

    An example:

    • Let's assume you pay "Kellie" $100k pa salary and her loaded cost is $135k. Kellie leaves for a better opportunity somewhere else (63% of leavers cite low pay, no opportunities for advancement). Let's also assume that you get lucky and can replace her having "only" spent 50% of her salary ($50k) on the whole end-to-end replacement process (certainly more if you use an agency)

    • So the direct benefits would be that you could train 25 of your team for that amount. Including Kellie.

Research shows that investing in your talent reduces cost, risk and improves employee satisfaction.

Which makes your organisation a better place to work.

  • Learning on the job is essential to gain real-world experience.

But if that's all we've got, we're going to take much longer (years longer) to reach "unconscious competence" (something we teach in the course!) and we'll make many more mistakes in the process.

As with pretty much all professional roles, formal, structured learning is essential to get a solid foundation and get to where you want to be, easier and faster.
